These Nike Foamposite Snowboard Boot Samples show that Beaverton dabbled in bringing its Posite tech to the slopes. The Foamposites are known for their hardwood and streetwear heritage, but these rare prototypes show Nike always aims high, way past basketball.
It was first spotted in the 2010s and looks almost identical to the Nike Kaiju Snowboarding Boot, a boot developed under Scott Keating when he was the head of Nike Snowboarding. The sample pack has a molded Foamposite shell, it is a tall shoe to wrap the ankle and it has biting traction suitable for use on snow. Photos in-hand have shown pairs were made in a standout camo colorway, an all-black colorway, and even a gold camo color makeup – one even being listed for sale by an employee for $2,650. Written on the insole in clear is “SAMPLE – Property of Nike, Not For Resale.”
Something sneakerheads will recognize about these is that the DNA of the Foamposite is alive and well. The ribbed shell, glossy accents, and even micro Swoosh embroidery take cues from the legendary Foamposite One, mixing basketball history with winter sports practicality.
Even though these never saw a release, the Foamposite Snowboard Boot remains one of Nike’s most compelling experiments. They were the product of a time when the company was less inhibited about crossing categories to make performance-oriented apparel that still felt futuristic.
