In this ongoing partnership, young patients play an integral role in crafting this limited-edition Doernbecher Freestyle collection. What makes it even more special is that all profits generated from the sales go directly to benefit the OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital.

Each collection narrates a unique story, now totaling more than 100 heartfelt tales. Through these creations, we gain insights into the world of Doernbecher kids, witnessing their remarkable grace and courage year after year. By supporting this initiative, we collectively achieve something extraordinary. All the proceeds from this collection contribute to the Area of Greatest Need at OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital. This ensures that hospital leaders have the flexibility to allocate resources precisely when and where they are needed the most.

Hugo Covarrubias Molina
Age: 14
Diagnosis: Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome
Shoe: Air Jordan 3 “Doernbecher XIX”
Style Code: FZ3030-919
Release Date: December 2, 2023
Price: $210

Hugo “Juice” Covarrubias Molina was born with a rare disorder that causes one side of his body to grow larger than the other. He used to feel self-conscious about it, but Hugo has learned to embrace his uniqueness and designed a shoe that encourages others to do the same.

The green and blue colors perfectly match the jersey of Hugo’s beloved football team, the Seattle Seahawks. Hugo’s passion for gold chains has led to the creation of a unique gold-plated hangtag, which can also be worn as a pendant on a necklace. The inner tongue of the shoe features woven patches, with one side listing his heroes, his mom and dad, while the other intentionally remains blank, allowing the wearer to fill in their own heroes.

Hugo’s personal handwritten motto, “It’s OK to be different,” is visible through the green, transparent outsole. Additionally, the transparent heel tab unveils Hugo’s logo, with the Jumpman positioned above his nickname, “Juice.” To showcase Hugo’s distinctive sense of style, a striking green drip pattern is prominently featured, accented by green patent leather on the tongue and quarter overlay. Furthermore, the shoe’s laces incorporate glow-in-the-dark flecks, adding an extra touch of uniqueness.

Hailey has had five surgeries to fix the valves of her heart, so she decided to honor her medical journey with a special heart-inspired shoe. The logo on the tongue and sockliner is a drawn replica of her one-of-a-kind heart, while shiny gold accents reflect her sparkly personality. Added bonus: Hailey turned some of her favorite things (like ice cream and rainbows) into mix-and-match charms that you can wear on the shoe or as a bracelet.

She believed she could, so she did. That phrase guides Macey Bodily in everything she does, so she made sure to give it a place of honor on her flower-powered shoe. For her favorite activity, you can find resin dots on the heel that mimics water droplets, along with glow-in-the-dark lines on the outsole that mirrors pool reflection ripples. Sydney hopes her vibrant shoe will brighten your day and has a bit of advice for anyone facing a challenge: “Keep swimming,” she smiled. “You’ll get through it.”
