Since its inception in 2004, Nike and OHSU Doernbecher Hospital have raised nearly $17 million, with the number expected to be much higher after this year’s collection.
Today, the Nike Doernbecher Freestyle 2017 designers were officially introduced. No word yet on what shoes will be included in the collection, or what this year’s Air Jordan will be. All that typically gets revealed in October, followed by a November release.
Below is a look at all the patients that have been selected to design their own shoe. Get introduced to each kid and stay tuned to Sneaker Bar for more updates.
Meet 15-year-old Andrew, who has cystic fibrosis. His perfect day: An A+ on finals and catching the winning touchdown.
Meet 11-year-old Amyiah. She has sickle cell anemia and indeterminate colitis – and she loves football and basketball.
Meet 13-year-old Ethan: a talented trumpet player with a second-degree black belt. His brain tumor was removed at Doernbecher.
Meet 11-year-old Brody. He’s had nine brain surgeries and is a self-described expert on superheroes.
Meet 14-year-old Joe. Diagnosed with Burkitt Leukemia, Joe loves playing sports and wants to be a pro football player someday.
Meet 8-year-old Carissa. She was born without kidneys and received a transplant in 2013. She loves basketball and Minecraft!
Patient-designer Brayden, 13! He loves baseball and math and is being treated for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL).
