Devin Booker is starting a new chapter with the Phoenix Suns, changing his jersey number from No. 1 to No. 15 as a tribute to his father, Melvin Booker. The number carries plenty of family history, as Melvin wore it during his college career at Missouri, while Devin has also used No. 15 when representing Team USA.
Booker recently shared a look at his updated jersey on Instagram, but the sneakers sitting in the background quickly became the bigger story. The image offered an early preview of a Nike Book 2 colorway inspired by the legendary Air Foamposite One “Eggplant.”
This is not the first time Foamposite styling has appeared on the Book 2. Booker previously wore an orange Phoenix Suns-inspired version, though this pair pulls directly from one of the Foamposite line’s most recognizable releases. The shoe replaces the Book 2s usual layered construction with a molded matte purple shell that covers the mudguard and lace panels, closely matching the look of the original “Eggplant” Foamposite One.
The inspiration also has a connection to Arizona basketball history. Mike Bibby famously debuted the Air Foamposite One while playing for the Arizona Wildcats in 1997, before the sneaker became closely associated with Penny Hardaway.
