In 1998, Nike introduced the Air Max Plus, a brainchild of the renowned designer, Sean McDowell. This iconic sneaker boasts wavy TPU overlays, inspired by the gentle sway of palm trees. McDowell’s inspiration struck during a Florida vacation, where these trees danced in the breeze.

This unique Nike shoe deviates from the typical Nike style due to McDowell’s early career stage at the company. The Air Max Plus broke new ground by becoming the first running shoe to incorporate Nike’s Tuned Air system. This innovative system utilizes two polymer hemispheres to cushion impact, ensuring a smooth run.

Internationally, the Nike Air Max Plus, also known as Air TN or Air Tuned, achieved tremendous popularity. However, within the United States, its success was more modest.

As the Nike Air Max Plus marks its 25th Anniversary, Nike Sportswear is set to unveil a special edition. This “Anniversary” release features a distinctive gradient design and a pattern reminiscent of crinkled paper. The signature yellow from the TN logo is now transferred onto the visible Air unit. Furthermore, a custom shoebox narrating the shoe’s journey adds an extra layer of history to this release.

The Nike Air Max Plus “25th Anniversary” will hit the shelves on October 27th at select Nike Sportswear retailers, both in-store and online. Priced at $185 USD, it’s an exciting milestone for sneaker enthusiasts and a nod to a legendary shoe’s enduring legacy.
