The Nike Air Max 95 Big Bubble “Fauna Brown” revisits the silhouette’s past but does so with a more down-to-earth attitude.

The new design largely remains true to the defining gradient of the Air Max 95, but in shades of layered greys that range from light suede in the collar to a darker charcoal along the mudguard. The white mesh panels and white laces keep the silhouette familiar, further emphasizing the shoe’s anatomical influence. The burgundy-tinged brown lace loops and embroidered mini Swoosh add a down-to-earth, slightly heritage-inspired warmth that feels functional, rather than purely aesthetic.

Of course, what really grounds the pair is the tinted Air unit contained in the blacked out midsole. The muted sepia adds a subtle, lifestyle-first polish to the cushioning without straying too far from the performance aspect of the model’s DNA. It also acts as a low-key reference to the Air Max 95’s original mid-’90s debut, in which exposed Air and muscly paneling subverted contemporary ideas about what a running shoe should look like. Here, that same sense of innovation is tempered—it’s less unexpected, and more assured—making the colorway just as at home on the street as it is in the Air Max canon.
