We have seen plenty of film and TV-themed sneakers over the years, but two that standout from the rest has to be the Air Mag and “Space Jam” Jordan 11.
The Nike Air Mag finally made its debut with the auto-lacing feature seen in the “Black to the Future Part II” film, back in 2016. Only 89 pairs were available which supported the Michael J. Fox Foundation in fight against Parkinson’s disease and finding a cure. The sensor-equipped shoe automatically tightens and loosens to fit the unique shape of the wearer. Integrated glowing lights in the midsole, heel, and strap highlight the futuristic form.
Also debuted in 2016, the Air Jordan 11 “Space Jam” celebrated the 20th anniversary of the movie “Space Jam” starring Michael Jordan, who wore the shoes in both the movie and the 1995 NBA Playoffs. The 2016 retro ended up being Nike’s largest and most successful shoe launch ever. It was faithful reproduction of the original PE than the 2000 and 2009 retros, featuring MJ’s comeback #45 on the heel, a first for an Air Jordan 11 retail release.
