Nike Air Griffey Max 1 “Cincinnati Reds” Returns October 2026

Published on

The Nike Air Griffey Max 1 “Cincinnati Reds” is coming back in 2026, bringing back a colorway that hasn’t been on shelves since 2011. Inspired by Ken Griffey Jr.’s years in Cincinnati, the retro is set to return as part of Nike’s Holiday lineup.

Griffey joined the Reds in 2000 and spent nine seasons with the team after making his name in Seattle. While the Air Griffey Max 1 is most closely connected to his Mariners days, Cincinnati has also played a part in the sneaker’s history. This red, white, and black version originally dropped in 2011 and is now returning 15 years later.

The 2026 release comes dressed in Varsity Red across most of the upper, with White covering the mudguard and additional panels. Black fills in the Swoosh, lacing area, and parts of the midsole. Griffey’s familiar “24” remains on the ankle strap, one of the signature details that has followed the model since its early years.

First introduced in 1996 as Ken Griffey Jr.’s debut signature shoe, the Air Griffey Max 1 was built with baseball roots but quickly became a popular lifestyle sneaker. Its oversized strap, layered construction, and chunky Air Max cushioning continue to define the silhouette.
