New Balance Launches New Sustainable Shoe Using Surplus Materials

New Balance is launching a new limited edition shoe with a sustainable approach: the Test Run PRJ 3.0. This shoe was created in the New Balance Global Design Center by footwear designer Seth Maxwell, who was inspired by the challenge of building a shoe that leverages surplus materials.

New Balance’s Test Run Program is dedicated to testing new and unique ideas in performance footwear. The program began in July 2018 to challenge the creation process, aimed at bringing designers’ footwear concepts that don’t necessarily fit the product brief, to life. The goal? Deliver new innovative products to consumers with unprecedented speed.

For the Test Run PRJ 3.0, the team was challenged to take an existing midsole and create a limited edition silhouette using surplus materials, preventing the disposal of some leftover materials. This results in each pair of are completely unique, with no two pairs (or even two shoes) being the same.

New Balance Test Run PRJ 3.0 Release Date

Look for the New Balance Test Run PRJ 3.0 to release on November 15th at exclusive retailers such as Bodega, Extra Butter, Kith and Vibram as well as on NewBalance.com. The retail price tag is set $180 USD.
