New Balance continues the autumn inspiration with the 991v2 “Walnut/Shitake.” The full Made in England colorway splashes in earthy browns that vary in depth and texture. There aren’t strong contrasts at play here. The suede, leather, and mesh play off each other to provide contrast and distinction to the upper’s silhouette.

The suede overlays, leather panels, and mesh iterate through shades of Walnut and Shitake as they each react differently to light. The suede provides darkness and density while the mesh tones down the appearance. Brown travels down into the lining and into the rubber outsole. The classic “N” logos and stampings of 991v2 are kept subtle to blend with the rest of the shoe.

FuelCell foam, ABZORB, and ENCAP provide cushioning beneath the shoe. It’s a soft platform that lends comfort to the 991v2 while maintaining the snugness and stability New Balance is known for in the 99X series.
