Made in England 991s are usually easy to spot by their mix of mesh, suede, leather, and reflective hits. This “Dijon” pair pulls away from that recipe, covering nearly the entire 991v1 upper in undyed European suede for a warmer, more material-driven look.
The Dijon/Castle Wall colorway sits in that mustard-brown range, close to wheat but a little richer. Because the suede is undyed, the panels are not meant to look perfectly identical. Small shifts in texture, raw edges, and the natural finish give the shoe more character than a standard blocked 991.
New Balance keeps the build pretty committed to suede. It covers the toe, overlays, side panels, heel, tongue, and even the “N” logos, removing the reflective branding usually found on the model. The lower tongue is one of the few areas that breaks from the full-suede approach, while tonal stitching helps outline the layered 991 shape without adding much contrast.
Cream lining and an off-white midsole help lighten the mood of the darker upper. Brown rope laces complement the earth tones, while vintage “991” embroidery is placed on the heel and tongue. Underfoot, the black and grey outsole reintroduces some of the shoe’s running heritage.
The New Balance 991v1 “Dijon” releases July 16, 2026 via NewBalance.com and select retailers. The retail price is set at $280 USD.
