New Balance is bringing darker colors to the 990v4 this fall with a “Monarch Burgundy” release from its Made in USA line. Burgundy handles most of the shoe, while brown works its way through the upper and sole without taking much away from the tonal look.

Monarch Burgundy runs through most of the upper, covering the mesh and the nubuck panels that wrap the shoe. Pumpernickel brown is mixed in around the toe and sides, including the “N” logos. The rest stays pretty simple, with burgundy used again on the tongue, laces, and lining.

There are a few lighter details mixed in. Reflective silver runs along the front of the toe and appears again on the “990” markings near the heel. New Balance also adds reflective detailing around the back, along with the usual Made in USA branding near the collar.

A Pumpernickel brown ENCAP midsole keeps the darker color scheme going underneath. ABZORB cushioning is used at the heel and forefoot, with black rubber covering sections of the outsole. The style code is U990BR4.
