New Balance is getting ready to roll out another new lifestyle model, with Coco Gauff helping introduce the 983 ahead of her time in New York. The shoe had already surfaced through its designer on Instagram, but this gives us the first official look at what’s coming.

The 983 joins a growing list of newer New Balance silhouettes that have pushed the brand beyond its usual retro lineup. Models like the 1954R, 2000 series, Action Bronson’s 2811 and Ronnie Fieg’s 2011 have all added something different to the mix, and the 983 continues that run.

Instead of bringing back one specific sneaker from the archives, the New Balance 983 borrows from several performance runners from the 2000s. The upper uses rounded overlays with a traditional “N” logo through the midfoot, while most of the design stands out through the sole unit underneath.

ABZORB SBS cushioning pods are worked into the midsole in an oval shape, surrounded by curved, wave-like sections that continue into the outsole. It gives the shoe a technical feel without making the overall shape look overly bulky.

The New Balance 983 will release globally on October 1, 2026, priced at $160.
