New Balance 1300JP Made in USA “Steel Blue” Returns May 2025

In sneaker history, few shoes carry the legacy of the New Balance 1300JP Steel Blue. Originally released in 1985, it was marketed as the brand’s best running shoe. Its premium build and $130 price tag shocked runners, but it gained a loyal following—especially in Japan.

By the late 1980s, Tokyo’s sneaker scene was growing fast. The 1300 became a cult classic in Ueno, where rare U.S. shoes were highly valued. New Balance noticed this trend and re-released the 1300JP in 1995, exclusively for Japan. This started a unique tradition of releasing the shoe in extremely limited numbers every five years.

Now, the 1300JP is back once again for 2025. Part of the New Balance Grey Days campaign, this release celebrates the brand’s legacy of classic running design. Featuring a Made in USA build, the 1300JP arrives in the beloved Steel Blue colorway with suede overlays, mesh panels, and ENCAP cushioning.

This version retains all the premium details and craftsmanship fans expect. Additionally, the classic look is perfect for everyday wear or collecting.
