Kylian Mbappé is starting a new chapter off the field, leaving Nike after years with the brand and signing with Swiss company On. The move gives On its biggest football name yet as it continues building out that side of the business.

Mbappé had been with Nike since he was eight years old and stayed with the brand throughout his rise into one of football’s biggest stars. Along the way, he received several special Mercurial releases, including the Mercurial Superfly 7 “Bondy Dreams” in 2019. At the time, it made him the youngest player to get his own player-exclusive Nike football boot.

Nike followed that up with more Mbappé editions over the years, although talk about a possible split had started well before his move to On was confirmed.

His new deal will involve more than just wearing On products. Mbappé is expected to work with the brand’s design and engineering teams as it develops its first football boots, which are currently planned for 2027. He will also represent On globally outside of the sport.

The signing adds another major name to On’s growing football push. Thierry Henry joined the company in 2025 as Director of Football, while Swiss midfielder Sydney Schertenleib became the brand’s first active football player signing later that year.

On is also taking a different route with the way it plans to build its football boots. The company is using its LightSpray technology, which forms the upper with sprayed filament instead of relying only on more traditional materials. The goal is to keep the boot light while giving On more control over how the upper is shaped.

Mbappé could end up being the main face of that launch once On is ready to bring its first football boots to market in 2027. For now, it is still unclear what he will wear in matches while the brand continues working on its first competition-ready model.
