Greats Brand is set to introduce another silhouette to their growing portfolio of sneakers called the Rosen. The sneaker is named after U.S. men’s Olympic Track Team runner Mel Rosen, who was enshrined in the USA Track & Field Hall of Fame in 1995. Overall the shoe seems to be a nice simple design with a retro look. And the price is very attractive at only $49.
The shoe is set to release Tuesday, February 17th in three different colors – Cadet, Nimbus and Cargo with quarter stitch work throughout the shoe. Since this is a running shoe, Greats is including a dual density EVA midsole. The upper is comprised of high density nylon and suede. Named for legendary track & field coach Mel Rosen, Greats’ newest silhouette pays tribute to the iconic American running shoe. Bronx-born and Brooklyn-bred, Rosen ran at Iowa before embarking on a storied career leading Auburn University for nearly 30 years and the U.S. Men’s Olympic Track Team during the 1992 games. He was enshrined to the USA Track & Field Hall of Fame in 1995. Mel’s individual journey, which witnessed countless technical advancements, influenced the creation of the Rosen. Its both contemporary and retro, balancing old school vibes and up-to-date innovations.
In the 1970’s the development of EVA (or ethylene vinyl acetate if you’re a scientist) revolutionized the construction of sports shoes. EVA has properties similar to rubber, though is simpler (and cheaper) to manipulate. Thus, its invention not just changed but accelerated the footwear business and helped push jogging into the mainstream. Over the past four decades, EVA has evolved and solidified standing as the running industry’s standard cushioning.
Evoking the familiar without treading to far into the past, the Rosen injects a fresh perspective into the vintage running niche. A durable, high density nylon and suede upper sits atop a best-in-class dual density EVA midsole. Featuring circular lugs along the tread, a Vibram® FREERIDE outsole finishes the design, and complements the upper for a clean, smooth look.
