Free The Youth and Jordan Brand have officially pulled back the curtain on their upcoming Air Jordan 16 collaboration, revealing a campaign built around Ghanaian culture, handmade sets, and the kind of creative risk that has shaped the collective from the beginning.
Photographed by Ilya Chemetoff, the campaign presents Free The Youth as what the group calls “cultural stuntmen.” The idea is less about performance for the sake of it and more about how the collective works—taking chances, stretching limited resources, and finding a way to turn large ideas into something real.

That approach shaped nearly every part of the shoot. The backgrounds were drawn, painted, or sculpted by hand with clay, while the members performed each airborne scene themselves inside the studio. No stunt doubles, digital compositing, or AI-generated imagery were used. The final images were then finished through several days of hands-on post-production.
Ghanaian architecture, traditional prints, and cultural symbols all helped guide the visual direction. The team also looked to Tema, where Free The Youth was founded, along with the Sun Man stilt performers seen at Ghanaian celebrations. Late-1990s hip-hop photography added another layer, especially its use of practical effects, unusual proportions, and bold color.

Stylist Imruh Asha handled the fashion direction, tying the campaign’s apparel into the same expressive world. The images follow the group’s “A Night of Flight” event in Paris, the first Arena of Flight experience created through the Jordan Brand partnership.
Free The Youth was founded in 2013 by Jonathan Coffie, Kelly Foli, Winfred Mensah, and Richard Kweku Ormano. The collective began by sharing African artwork online before expanding into fashion, design, and larger creative projects. Its first Jordan collaboration was an Air Jordan 1 limited to 175 friends-and-family pairs.
Special packaging for the Air Jordan 16 includes multicolored tissue paper, while the inside of the lid reads, “We succeeded in giving the people hope.”
