Puma is looking to invigorate its Basket Classics line of trainers. Originally launched in the 60’s as a trainers/warm-up sneakers for basketball players – the Puma Basket Classic has passed the test of time and still continues to be a nice silhouette for us sneakerheads to slide our hungry feet into.
Today we get to take a detailed look at the Black/Silver/White colorway option and I’ll be honest it does’t disappoint on looks. There is also an all white version which you can see by clicking at the source link below from JDSports. So let’s break down the black model I received.
The upper is wrapped in a nice black leather that really increases the quality feel of this shoe. You also have synthetic leather design work sticked on the lateral and medial side of the upper. There is also a silver/metallic Puma Basket branding logo on the lateral side which I happen to like a lot. On the heel is a Puma Cat logo.
I enjoy the padded cuff area around the ankle, it really helps keep my foot in place since I like wear my laces pretty loose. The look of the laces is probably my favorite part honestly. I love the fact that they are wide and have a nice chunky look to them which makes the tongue barely visible under the laces. The tongue is my only complain actually, it’s pretty thin with minimal padding and I don’t like the way the top is cut – it digs into my ankle a bit when I walk and feels like its constantly pinching me since I wear ankle socks. But if your only planning to wear them with jeans or your the type of person that wears socks higher than your ankle then you really shouldn’t have much to worry about.
The midsole is all white with some embossed designs to give it a nice added touch. You also have nice white stitch work across the top of the midsole and Puma branding on the heel. The outsole is simple enough, all white with a nice grippy pattern and the Puma branding right in the middle.
I probably went on a little too long detailing this shoe and unfortunately not too many people will be interested. Heck I’d be surprised to see if anyone has made it down this far but I do like this shoe and it’s materials (darn that pitching tongue though).
This black model and the white model are both exclusively available from our UK based friends JDSports. They also created a special instagram page for the Basket Classic models that you can check out here. Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
