Boston sneaker retailer Concepts and Nike Sportswear team up to release a collaborative take on the iconic Air Max 1 celebrating the model’s 35th Anniversary.
There will be three Concepts x Nike Air Max 1 colorways, “Mellow”, “Heavy” and “Far Out” – all part of a larger “Mellow” collection that includes apparel. The design digs into the culture, music and style of the late ‘60s, specifically the music festival scene of the era, in all its vibrancy. Often held over long weekends, these festivals ticketed by the day. And, while there was a shared belief in the peaceful power of the gatherings, each had its own unique essence.
Each Air Max 1 comes in their own unique design constructed in a mix of premium materials with mismatching Swooshes, slash star moon symbols embroidered on the toe box, and distressed “NIKE” heel branding. Concepts branding on the tongue tags, guitar pick hangtags, heels, and insoles housed in a decorative co-branded box completes the design.

While celebrating the Air Max 1’s 35th Anniversary, Concepts looks to the music festival scene of the late ’60s for inspiration.
“Nike has been a tremendous partner to Concepts. Together, our collaborative track record speaks for itself,” says Deon Point, Concepts Creative Director. “When we decided to work on the Air Max 1, a personal favorite, we wanted to fully honor the irreverent spirit of Nike from its origins in the ‘60s up to today.”
The entire collection, which includes apparel, is dubbed, “Mellow”, while the first release is dubbed, “Friday.” The colorway includes patterned elements of bandanna, cowhide, and woven material panels. The former, a Concepts-exclusive, approximates the famous guitar straps of the era. Further details include a lateral striped Swoosh and a medial “flower power” Swoosh. The tongue label revives a classic ‘70s Nike logo and twists it with a Concepts “hippie” word mark. The design is completed by a custom footbed.
The other two colorways, possibly dubbed, “Saturday” and “Sunday”, will release on a later date via SNKRS and select retailers. For more details on the collection, click here.
