Rather than avoiding wear, which is the typical stance in the sneakerhead community, CNCPTS has made it the central theme for their latest New Balance release. The 990v4 “Patina” is built around vintage leather jackets, passed-down cookware, boots molded to your feet after years of wear, and forgotten treasures from estate sales that come to life with age.

The shoe features waxed suede leather on the upper that will develop its own unique patina as you wear it. Mixed together tan, burgundy, sage, and cream create a colorway inspired by vintage furniture, jewelry, and other trinkets with colors that have faded or changed over time. Gold accents are another mature detail while the alternate laces were crafted with woven ends that mimic vintage textiles.

Other small details tie everything together past the shoe’s upper. The footbed features an irregular crackle pattern inspired by vintage jadeite glassware and each pair will ship in a custom box inspired by vintage steamer trunks. Custom monograms painted on the box and travel stickers add even more personality.

Built to wear, CNCPTS expects the “Patina” to develop creases, scuffs, and even slight discoloration. Every wear will alter the shoe slightly, creating a unique pair for everyone depending on how they treat their sneakers.

Buyers who win the drawings to pick up their pair at CNCPTS Boston will also receive an extra pair to gift to a family member or friend. Encouraging sneakerheads to pass their pair on when they’re done with them will also help each pair of 990v4 “Patina” sneakers gain more character and history.

The online raffle opens Saturday, July 14 at 12 PM ET for one hour. Online allocation will be available on a first come, first served basis after July 18 at 10 AM ET, with CNCPTS Boston holding in-store availability from 10 AM – 7 PM ET that day. The CNCPTS x New Balance 990v4 “Patina” drops on July 18, 2026.
