Sashiko Gals took a rare friends-and-family Colette Air Jordan 1 and covered much of its upper in denim patchwork for Sarah Andelman. Made specifically for the boutique’s co-founder, the custom is a one-of-one piece.
The patches differ in shade, shape, and placement, so the two shoes don’t follow the same layout. Visible stitching runs across the denim in right-angle patterns. At the heels, the Colette logos and “2017” remain as they were on the original pair, with no patchwork covering them.
The Japanese collective brings together 15 women between the ages of 40 and 90. Their connection dates back to recovery efforts after the 2011 Tohoku earthquake, and they reunited as a fashion label in 2024. Since then, their work has included projects with New Balance, New Era, and C.P. Company, along with a custom Nike Vomero Plus for Tim Cook.
This Colette Air Jordan 1 Mid “Sashiko Gals” was created for Andelman’s personal collection and is not a retail release.
