City Jeans x adidas Gazelle “Diamond in the Rough” Celebrates Bronx Resilience

City Jeans and adidas have partnered on a new project that centers on the Bronx. The adidas Gazelle “Diamond in the Rough” celebrates the determination and talent cultivated from struggle.

The limited-release Gazelle dons a black tear-away nylon upper that is suspended over a powder blue suede base layer. The juxtaposition of the two materials speak to an exterior toughness hiding beauty and ingenuity waiting to be uncovered. The use of reflective Three Stripes and a diamond-patterned tongue brings more visual depth to the overall narrative. It’s one of the most well-conceived Gazelle collaborations in recent years.

This means a lot for a brand like City Jeans, which has long been an institution in the Bronx since the 1990s. COO Ben Winrauke called it a “love letter” to the borough’s community that fuels them every day. Head Buyer Eric Canals also attributed the project to his own experiences growing up in the Bronx. He stated it shows “diamonds shining through struggle.” This personal connection makes the sneaker a statement, not just a product.

The “Diamond in the Rough” moniker, on the other hand, is meant to shine a light on people who emerge from seemingly invisible places to make an impact on culture, sports, and music. Dave East is one such Bronx-native emcee, so the sneaker’s intent resonates on an even deeper level. That’s a detail that will be well-received by sneakerheads and locals alike.

The City Jeans x adidas Gazelle “Diamond in the Rough” releases soon for $130. Pairs will be available exclusively at City Jeans locations across New York and online at cityjeans.com.
