Nike is getting one of its biggest legends back in the house. According to Brendan Dunne on X, Christian Tresser is rejoining the footwear giant under the Jordan Brand umbrella as a senior expert designer, where he will focus on speed-to-market footwear design and development. He made the official announcement on social media, posting a photo of himself in front of the Michael Jordan Building at the Nike World Headquarters.
The Air Max 97 designer helped put the final touches on Nike’s late-’90s running era, mixing futuristic lines and bold colorways with masterful, layered silver waves. He also gained attention at Reebok prior to his run at Nike, producing such classics as the Aztrek and DMX Daytona. Later in his career, Tresser was at adidas, working on the Yeezy 700 MNVN series from 2020 to 2023, so he certainly hasn’t been resting on his laurels.
Now, the Christian Tresser Nike return is a sign that things are about to get interesting under the Jordan Brand umbrella as Tresser is tapped to work on a series of performance and lifestyle projects. He has a proven history of elevating the best and boldest of ideas to legendary status, so it’s not hard to see why sneakerheads are salivating at the possibilities. That’s the kind of comeback story that sneaker culture lives for, after all — one where innovation and legacy collide.
The Christian Tresser Jordan Brand era will kick off soon, and it’s sure to light a fire under Nike’s next classic.
