Bluetile’s first Nike SB collaboration gives the Dunk Low a deeper story, using the Monarch butterfly as the central symbol behind a release rooted in movement, identity, and community. The project looks beyond surface-level design by tying the butterfly’s migration to the experience of searching for home, a theme that connects directly to Mexican immigrant journeys and to people who helped shape Bluetile’s South Carolina skate scene.

The shoe translates that message through a dark black base with textured leather panels, rich blue Swooshes, and bold orange details pulled from the Monarch’s wings. Fuzzy lace options add another layer to the concept, while the heel embroidery and graphic insoles bring in more of the butterfly theme. A sunset-like mix of orange and blue also reflects Columbia, South Carolina, giving the pair a stronger sense of place beyond the usual co-branded treatment.

Bluetile also built the project around a personal tribute, pointing to the story of Irving, a team member who made the journey from Veracruz, Mexico, and became part of the local skate community. That personal angle gives the collaboration real meaning and makes the Monarch inspiration feel earned instead of decorative.

Bluetile Nike SB Dunk Low Release Date

The Bluetile x Nike SB Dunk Low “Monarch Butterfly” will release in-store on May 2nd at Bluetile in Columbia, followed by a May 3rd release in Charleston and an online launch on May 4th through Bluetile’s website. Skate shops will launch their pairs on May 8th. Retail is set at $135, while a wider SNKRS release is expected May 12th.
