Beyond Store is marking 20 years with a Nike SB Dunk High shaped by Finnish architecture, local history, and a connection to skateboarding that reaches much further back than the shop itself. It is also the first Nike SB collaboration made with a retailer from the Nordic region.

The shoe takes its cues from Alvar Aalto, the Finnish architect and designer closely tied to Jyväskylä, where Beyond was founded. His influence shows up through the materials and color choices instead of oversized graphics or heavy branding. The result is a mostly white Dunk High with tan, blue, and muted red worked into the design.

White leather covers the majority of the upper, while light brown accents and a birch-colored Swoosh point to Aalto’s well-known furniture work. Blue patent-style panels appear around the collar, referencing the glazed ceramic surfaces found in several of his buildings.

The red outsole pulls from the brick used throughout Aalto’s architecture. None of those details overpower the shoe, which was intentional. Beyond founder Juho Haapala wanted the collaboration to feel simple, practical, and wearable long after the anniversary had passed. The final design was also approved by the Alvar Aalto Foundation.

The skate connection comes through Aalto’s work on Villa Mairea. In 1939, he designed the property’s swimming pool with a freeform shape and rounded edges, breaking away from the rectangular pools that were common at the time. Similar pool designs later spread to Southern California.

When many of those backyard pools were emptied during drought conditions, skateboarders began riding them. Their curved walls helped push vertical skating forward and played a major role in the development of modern skateboarding.

That history gives the Beyond Store x Nike SB Dunk High more substance than the average anniversary release. The references are there, but they are folded into the shoe quietly, keeping the focus on a functional design that still feels like something made to skate.

Beyond Nike SB Dunk High Release Date

The Beyond Store x Nike SB Dunk High releases July 8, 2026, at Beyond Jyväskylä, followed by Beyond Helsinki on July 11. A wider launch will take place July 25th through select Nike SB skate shops. SNKRS availability has yet to be announced. The pair comes in unisex sizing and is priced at $145. Check out the official photos below.
