Better Air Jordan 9: “Powder Blue” or “Slim Jenkins”

Published on

In 1993, Tinker Hatfield persevered in crafting the Air Jordan 9, undeterred by Michael Jordan’s sudden retirement and foray into baseball. Captivated by MJ’s global stardom, the AJ9 flaunts a globe icon and diverse languages on its outsole, embodying his international allure. Today, we examine two distinct yet remarkably similar color schemes.

The “Powder Blue” Air Jordan 9, originating in 1994, resurfaced in 2010 and is set for another return in 2024. Boasting hues reminiscent of Jordan’s alma mater, the University of North Carolina, the shoe features a white leather upper complemented by University Blue accents. The customary multilingual etchings on the outsole and the stitched “23” on the heels deviate from the original 1994 version but align with the 2010 retro.

Channeling Slim Jenkins’ persona, the Air Jordan 9 “Slim Jenkins” dons “Mystics” colors, a fictional team created for Jordan Brand’s marketing campaign. Sporting a black suede upper, coordinating leather paneling, an elastic lacing system, and metallic silver details on the Jumpman logo and heel tab, this sneaker is part of the Johnny Kilroy pack, showcasing Jordan’s imaginary roles during his “retirement” from basketball.
