Trying to figure out which Air Jordan is the better silhouette, the Air Jordan 3 or Air Jordan 11 could fall along the lines of debating who is the better rapper, Tupac or Biggie.
The Air Jordan 3 was originally released in 1988. It was the first Air Jordan silhouette designed by Tinker Hatfield, whom debuted the iconic ‘Jumpman’ logo instead of the ‘Wings’ logo found on the previous two models. The shoe was also the first Air Jordan to feature visible air and elephant print on the upper. Four colorways were debuted, which are all considered ‘Holy Grails’ today.
Michael Jordan averaged 35 points per game, voted to his fourth straight All-Star game where he won the MVP award and second straight Slam Dunk title. He was also voted the Defensive Player of the Year, won the league scoring title and took home the league MVP trophy – all while wearing the Air Jordan 3.
Arguably the most popular model of them all is the Air Jordan 11 silhouette that really took the game by storm.
Originally debuted in 1995, another classic design by the man Tinker Hatfield. It was the first Air Jordan to feature patent leather, that was also built with a polymer-coated thin nylon ballistic mesh material. Another highlight to the silhouette was the full-length carbon fiber shank plate and the translucent outsole – that is still iconic today.
The shoe even made an appearance in the film Space Jam, which went on to be one of the biggest selling Air Jordan 11 colorways. Remember when kids were skipping school to cop the latest Air Jordan releases? Well, the Air Jordan 11 was one of the reasons why Air Jordan releases were moved to Saturdays.
While wearing the Air Jordan 11, Michael played in his 10th All-Star game, won his second All-Star game MVP, became the eighth time scoring champion, and was the league MVP. The Bulls went on to win their fourth NBA tile, and MJ was once again the Finals MVP – not to mention the historic 72-10 season the Chicago Bulls had too, that is still the best season every in NBA history.
