The Air Jordan 19 “Midwest” came out during the model’s original run as part of a regional pack that also included East and West versions. This pair went with a mostly white setup, then added Varsity Red patent leather to give it some contrast. Tech-Flex covers the lacing system across the upper, while Zoom Air cushioning was used underfoot for the performance side of the shoe.

Tate Kuerbis designed the Air Jordan 19, and even though Michael Jordan never wore the model in an NBA game, his input still played a role in how it came together. Jordan Brand was trying to keep the performance side of the signature line moving forward while also giving the shoe a look that didn’t feel like a repeat of earlier models. The Black Mamba was one of the main design references, which explains the covered upper and the sharper shape of the shoe.

The AJ19 was also built with actual court use in mind. Its Tech-Flex construction helped keep the upper flexible, while Zoom Air handled the cushioning. The hidden lacing setup became one of the easiest parts of the shoe to recognize, and it gave the 19 a much different look from the Jordans that came before it.

The Air Jordan 19 “Midwest” still has not been retroed. Original pairs do show up from time to time, but finding one in deadstock condition is difficult now. Unless Jordan Brand decides to bring the colorway back, the resale market is still the only real option for anyone trying to track down a pair.
