The Air Jordan 12 “Obsidian” is coming back in 2027 after a long stretch away from retail. The original high-top last returned in 2012, so this will be the first time the colorway has been available in that form in 15 years.
First released in 1997, the “Obsidian” was part of the original Air Jordan 12 lineup. It features a dark navy leather upper with white mudguard panels and Carolina blue accents, using the same familiar color blocking as the original pair.
Tinker Hatfield designed the Air Jordan 12 with stitched lines across the upper inspired by Japan’s Rising Sun flag. The “Obsidian” also stood apart from many Jordans of that period because it did not use the usual Chicago Bulls colors. Michael Jordan never wore the pair in an NBA game, but it still became one of the more recognizable original Air Jordan 12 colorways.
Jordan Brand brought the high-top version back in 2012, while an Air Jordan 12 Low “Obsidian” had already released in 2004. The high-top has remained off shelves since that 2012 retro.
The 2027 release stays close to the original, bringing back the navy leather upper, white overlays, Carolina blue accents, and stitched detailing across the upper.
