adidas Harden Vol. 1 Retro “Pioneer” Returns October 15th

Published on

James Harden has been with adidas for a decade now, and his signature sneaker line is about to reach its 11th model. That’s a pretty big number for a basketball player with the Three Stripes. Derrick Rose was the last to get that far, and Harden could eventually go beyond him with his current contract running through 2028. He’s even talked about wanting a lifetime deal with adidas.

The first Harden sneaker is also making a comeback. Originally released in 2016, the adidas Harden Vol. 1 is returning as Harden heads into his 18th NBA season. We’ve already seen the retro surface in China, with Oklahoma City Thunder guard Jalen Williams helping promote the shoe. From the outside, it looks much like the pair people remember, but adidas has made some changes to what’s inside.

The biggest difference is the cushioning. Instead of the original Boost setup, the Harden Vol. 1 Retro now uses Hyperboost foam, giving the older design a more modern setup underfoot. It’s only the second adidas basketball model to feature the technology, following the Anthony Edwards 3. We’ve seen this approach before with Nike’s Kobe Protro releases, where the original designs return with updated performance features. Under Armour also took a similar route by adding Flow traction to older Curry models.

The adidas Harden Vol. 1 Retro lands stateside via the “Pioneer” colorway on October 15, 2026. A $140 retail price is confirmed.
