Nike Kobe 3 Low Protro “Mamba Eterno” Celebrates Día de los Muertos

Published on

The upcoming Nike Kobe 3 Low Protro “Mamba Eterno” doesn’t look much like the cleaner pairs we’ve seen from the model so far. Floral artwork runs underneath the translucent cage, while orange, red, pink, and purple cover much of the shoe and give it a look connected to Día de los Muertos.

Nike lists the colorway as Safety Orange, Picante Red, and Sundial. Those colors are mixed throughout the upper rather than being separated into simple blocks, with the floral pattern visible through different sections of the Kobe 3’s cage.
“Mamba Eterno” translates to “Eternal Mamba,” a name that fits with the Día de los Muertos theme and the tradition of remembering family members and loved ones who have passed.

The connection also makes sense with Kobe Bryant’s history in Los Angeles. He had a large following within the city’s Mexican community, and Vanessa Bryant is of Mexican descent. Using that theme on a Kobe release gives the pair a more personal connection than a standard seasonal colorway.

Most Kobe 3 Low Protro releases have kept the upper fairly straightforward, but this pair goes in another direction. The artwork underneath the cage becomes a major part of the design instead of letting the shoe’s molded construction handle most of the look.
