The adidas Springblade is showing up again, which probably wasn’t on many people’s 2026 sneaker bingo card. adidas first put the shoe out in 2013, and those big plastic blades under the sole made it impossible to miss. It’s been gone for a long time, but a return is now expected in late 2026 or early 2027.

When the Springblade first arrived in 2013, most of the attention went straight to what was happening under the shoe. The sole was made with individual polymer blades instead of a more traditional foam setup. Each blade was built to compress as the foot hit the ground, then flex back during the next step. Whether you liked the look or not, there wasn’t much else on the market that looked like it.

The timing of the original release is also worth remembering since adidas introduced BOOST that same year. Both technologies were pushed as new ideas for running, but they ended up going in very different directions. Springblade stuck around for a relatively short period, while BOOST became a major part of the adidas lineup. The UltraBOOST helped take it even further in 2015, when the shoe started getting attention well outside the running world.

Images of what appears to be a new adidas Springblade have now started making the rounds, although there are still some questions about what exactly is coming back. The shoe could stay close to the 2013 version, or adidas could make changes to the materials and construction while keeping the blade setup that made the original so recognizable.

The adidas Springblade is currently expected to return in late 2026 or early 2027. An exact release date has yet to be announced.
