J. Cole is moving forward with his own sneaker project years after his run with PUMA came to an end. The Dreamer Indie 5000 is his first independently produced shoe, giving Cole another way into footwear without signing on with one of the major sneaker brands.

His previous sneaker work started with PUMA, where the two released the RS-Dreamer in 2020 followed by the Dreamer 2. The partnership wrapped up after a relatively short run, with their final releases arriving in 2021. Work on the Indie 5000 reportedly started sometime after that, although Cole has kept most of the project quiet while it was being developed.

Made in Italy, the Dreamer Indie 5000 has the look of an older basketball shoe rather than a stripped-down modern sneaker. Synthetic panels overlap across the upper, while the same sharp lines work their way down into the midsole. The shape is bulky without going too far, and there are hints of late-’90s and early-2000s basketball footwear throughout the design.

Cole has shared a few early sketches along with photos showing the different pieces that make up the shoe. We still don’t know much about the actual tech or how it performs, but the Indie 5000 is being done on his own rather than through PUMA like the earlier Dreamer releases.

The J. Cole Dreamer Indie 5000 releases September 23, 2026, with the initial launch taking place in his hometown of Fayetteville, North Carolina. Pricing and details on a wider release have yet to be announced.
