A completely different version of the adidas Samba is on the way, taking the longtime indoor soccer shoe into the world of climbing. The basic Samba look remains, but nearly everything below the leather upper has been changed to handle a much different job.
Black leather covers the upper of the pair shown here, joined by white serrated Three Stripes and gold Samba lettering. Black laces keep the upper simple, while orange adidas branding on the tongue adds some color. Large orange and white pull tabs extend from the heel, making the shoe easier to pull on before a climb.
Five Ten technology is where this Samba really separates itself from the original. STEALTH rubber wraps around the toe, runs underneath the shoe, and climbs high around the heel for added grip and protection. The outsole also has a curved profile instead of the flat bottom normally associated with the Samba. Five Ten branding stretches across the heel support, tying the climbing setup directly into the adidas-owned brand.
Two colorways have surfaced so far. Along with the Black/White/Orange version pictured here, adidas has also prepared a White/Black/Blue pair.
The adidas Samba Climbing Shoe in Black/White/Orange releases October 6th for $120 through adidas.
