Another familiar Air Jordan 5 colorway is making its way back into the rotation, with the “Laney” expected to return in 2027.
First released in 2000, the colorway takes its inspiration from Emsley A. Laney High School in Wilmington, North Carolina, where Michael Jordan played before heading to the University of North Carolina. The school connection comes through in the mix of white, blue, and yellow across the shoe.
The Air Jordan 5 “Laney” returned for the first time in 2013 after more than a decade away. Jordan Brand later revisited the theme in 2019 with a flipped version that replaced the traditional white upper with Varsity Royal.
For 2027, the classic look is expected to return with white leather covering most of the upper. Varsity Maize and Varsity Royal accents appear throughout the design, including the tongue, midsole, Jumpman branding, and embroidered “23” along the lateral side. Black detailing and a mostly translucent outsole finish things off.
