Only Losers of the Mars Yard 3.0 Can Buy This Tom Sachs Nike General Purpose Shoe

Published on

If you missed the Tom Sachs x Nike Mars Yard 3.0 through the I.S.R.U. program, here’s a second chance. Nike and Sachs introduce the General Purpose Participation Shoe, created as a thank-you release for those who came up short in the draw.

First revealed on the Complex Sneakers Podcast, this sneaker carries the same stripped-down appeal as the 2022 General Purpose Shoe. Even its campaign mirrors the original rollout, with offbeat ads highlighting its purpose as an exclusive consolation drop for I.S.R.U. participants. That detail makes this pair one of the most unique NikeCraft releases to date.

The shoe has a tonal grey upper accented by light yellow on the Swoosh and forefoot piping. Red I.S.R.U. branding pops on the heel, side panel, and pull tabs, directly connecting the sneaker to the program. This particular design details have Tom Sachs’ utilitarian flavor, but do not dilute Nike’s storytelling edge one bit. The shoe is also subdued, yet collectible, much like previous NikeCraft drops.

Pre-orders are live now in the I.S.R.U. app for $110, but access is strictly limited. Only those who entered and lost the Mars Yard 3.0 draw are eligible. Orders will ship in Summer 2026, making this pair both a consolation prize and a collectible for sneaker fans.

The Nike x Tom Sachs General Purpose Participation Shoe shows us that losing can be winning. It isn’t a Mars Yard 3.0, but it is a continuation of Sachs’ mission to combine the banal utility of day-to-day survival and the art of cultural narrative. For fans, this one’s worth the shelf space.
