The convenience store giant 7-Eleven has sued over an impending Air Max 95 release that sports the brand’s signature orange, green, and red color scheme.

According to SneakerLegal on X, the lawsuit asserts that Nike’s sneaker design infringes on 7-Eleven’s protected colors. Even though Nike hasn’t officially confirmed a 7-Eleven connection for the Air Max 95, the shoe’s colors, convenience store allusions, and July 11 drop date certainly fueled speculation about its inspiration.

Courthouse documents feature side-by-side comparisons between the Nike sneaker and 7-Eleven-branded products featuring the striped coloring. The lawsuit notes that customers immediately think of 7-Eleven upon seeing orange, green, and red together, granting them ownership over more than just their logo.

Nike’s SNKRS product description and atmos promotional materials are also cited. Nike describes the release as grabbing a snack while taking a walk, while atmos dubbed the shoe part of a larger “Convini Pack” taking inspiration from Japanese convenience stores.

Together, that grants 7-Eleven more ammo than just knocking off their colorway. In the suit, 7-Eleven is asking the court to prevent the sneaker’s launch, halt marketing and sales, and recall any pairs that made it into market. Additionally, it’s seeking Nike’s profits associated with the Air Max 95, as well as damages and destruction of all products or marketing materials that are found to infringe on their trademarks.

At least one pair was purchased from a third-party website earlier this week, marking down ahead of its launch on July 11th. Since boxes will likely already be on sale sites and to resellers by then, a full recall could prove difficult.

This isn’t the first time 7-Eleven has sued over a sneaker; they also took Nike to court back in 2020 concerning a Nike SB Dunk Low that was subsequently called off. Similar to this incident, that shoe also sported the 7-Eleven colorway and was rumored to be part of a Japan-only drop around the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. While it was never stated why the shoe was canceled, both Nike and 7-Eleven kept tight lips about what actually happened.

Of course, sneakers have been given unofficial nicknames for years, typically when a shoe’s colorway resembles something else like a food brand, sports team, or pop culture reference. Where this suit finds itself will likely depend on whether or not the Air Max 95 is seen as being inspired by 7-Eleven’s color scheme or if Nike was intentionally trying to capitalize on the brand’s existing reputation.

The Nike Air Max 95 “7-Eleven” is still scheduled to release July 11, 2026, through Nike SNKRS. Its launch now remains uncertain while the lawsuit moves forward.
