Our very own Ty Mopkins recently sat down with Rick Williams to talk about the DISTINCT LIFE X REEBOK GL6000 OLIVE
collaboration. Be sure to read the interview below and let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
Ty/SBD: Why was the Reebok GL 6000 silhouette chosen for the series of collaborations with DLDG and Reebok?
Rick: I am a big fan of retro running silhouettes… The GL6000 is probably my favorite running shoe that the brand has ever come out with. I felt like it was the perfect canvas for this project. The cemetery of the shoe lends itself perfectly to what I was trying to do. Ty/SBD: What was the inspiration behind this color-way? Rick: This olive green color-way is taken from my company’s corporate colors. The colors are Black, Navy Blue, Olive Green, and Burgundy. |
Ty/SBD: Were there specific material requirements you had when putting the collaboration together for the shoes?
Rick: When I designed the shoe it was important to me the have some contrasting textures while using a tonal color palate. The different textures gave the design some depth while still keeping it wearable. Ty/SBD: This color-way is the second part of a four part series with the Rebook GL 6000 – what’s the inspiration behind breaking them into a series? Rick: I felt like this was the perfect way to introduce or reenforce our colors. I decided to break it up so that people didn’t have to choose between colors. I wanted people to be able to grab all four pairs if they wanted to. |
Ty/SBD: When and where can Sneaker Bar Detroit readers purchase the shoes?
Rick: The shoes will be available this Friday April 25th at a special pre-release event being held at our clothing store Two/Eighteen by Burn Rubber from 8:00pm to 10:00pm. After that the shoes will go on sale at www.burnrubberdetroit.com, April 26th at 12am. |
